about

Written to honor the memory of Barbara Henry, a bystander at the intersection of Florence and Normandy on April 29th, 1992. Barbara left the safety of her home to shield a complete stranger from crowbars and bricks with her own body. Placing herself between the angry mob and the stranger, Raul Aguilar, Barbara heroically rescued the man from certain injury. Many gathered at her own funeral a few years later, at the Greater Bethany Community Church, a very wonderful event recalling the life of Barbara Henry, Heroine of Los Angeles.

lyrics

Barbara Henry

An unassuming spirit living
each day the same as yesterday’s
Nothing ever threatened you
Until…… today

You didn’t want to see it happen
And you didn’t like to hear the cries
Revolution happening and you said
No bloody good byes
No bloody good byes
Today nobody dies

You saved me, you saved me tonight
You couldn’t bear to see me die
You laid your body over mine
Because you didn’t want to see me die

Did anyone ever tell you
Not to talk to strangers
or did you miss that one
Did anyone ever warn you
Just to stay away away

Heart larger than logic
bet you never knew you were a hero
But you surprised yourself by
not letting me go
not letting me go

You saved me, you saved me tonight
You couldn’t bear to see me die
You laid your body over mine
Because you didn’t want to see me die

Did anyone ever tell you
Not to talk to strangers
Did anyone ever warn you
Just to stay away away

You laid your body over mine

Because you didn’t want to see me die
